Throwback Thursday: The Jacksons – “The Love You Save”

If you watched the Janet Jackson documentary this past weekend, you probably came away with a new appreciation for the woman and the Jackson family at large. Joe Jackson might’ve been a tough and sometimes abusive father, but his rigidity produced a family of world-class performers.

The first part of the documentary was full of clips of The Jacksons (back when they were still called The Jackson 5), and we’re reminded of just how impactful they were at such a young age. Last week, we honored Janet Jackson with our TBT selection, and after watching her documentary, it’s only right that we pay homage to the gods that were Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael.

“The Love You Save” was The Jacksons’ third single, and their third out of four consecutive No. 1 singles — a first for a new act and a record that stood till Mariah Carey logged her first five singles at No. 1. The Jacksons’ discography is chock full of classics, but this one is a personal favorite and one of the best vocal performances Lil Mike ever gave. Click play.
