Throwback Thursday: Mya & Sisqo – “It’s All About Me”

Mya’s self-titled debut album recently turned 25, so let’s take a look back at where it all began.

In February of ’98, the DC native dropped her very first single, “It’s All About Me,” a duet with labelmate Sisqo. The song, co-written by Darryl Pearson and the Dru Hill frontman, is a top-of-the-line late ’90s slow jam, complete with layered vocals, a thumping beat, and ad libs for days.

Much like the song, the video for “It’s All About Me” is a wondrous glimpse into the late ’90s, when people weren’t afraid to hit a boom kack to a mid-tempo track — all while dressed in a baggy jumpsuits. The dance moves in this particular video were actually choreographed by Mya, who studied various dance styles as a child.

“It’s All About Me” would go on to peak at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.
